Hendrik J. Visser

 

Hendrik J. Visser graduated with a BSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology, a BSc Hons. in Genetics, and an MSc degree in Molecular Genetics from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. He was subsequently appointed as a research assistant at the same university, working on the molecular characterization of salt-tolerance in wild halophytes and its subsequent transfer to cereal crops.

After a move to the UAE in 2008, he was appointed by the UAE University to launch and run a novel DNA fingerprinting laboratory for the Date Palm Research and Development Unit (DPRDU). Following its success, he was tasked with the founding and management of the Khalifa Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (KCGEB).

Visser joined Masdar Institute in 2014 as a Senior Researcher/Project Manager, responsible for overseeing the establishment and running of the SBRC’s flagship project: the Seawater Energy and Agriculture System (SEAS).
